Costa Rica

My Husband and I recently vacationed in Costa Rica after a long, painful year that ended in the shooting death by policeman of our youngest child Rashaad.  I started a facebook page "Encounter Killings by Police" if anyone is interested in details and/or about other similar cases.  The sadness and anger we felt at such a horrible ending to what seemed to be such a promising life (he was an airplane pilot at the age of 21/ died at the age of 23) only heightened our awareness of how short life can be.

We chose to go to Costa Rica because my husband having traveled to the Caribbean wanted me to experience the flavor though I rather travel to Islamic locations and never really desired to go to touristy spots but oh how I am so glad I did. This destination  was a wonderful place to unwind and rest.  I found the Costa Ricans friendly and accommodating.  We stayed at a small Inn near the airport that was just the spot for us, we usually like to stay at B&B's preferring the homey atmosphere over Hotels and their coldness.

We visited the Arenal mountains where the Volcano has heated some waters called the hot-springs (picture above), a mystical place of waterfalls, flowers, rain forest plants and hot natural springs, to warm your worries away and then partake in an unbelievable meal.  This was a vacation designed by God, we only stayed 6 days but enjoyed every minute of it.  Some facts about Costa Rica; it has beaches on the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and is considered to be part of the Caribbean experience. It does not have an Army and has not been involved in any foreign wars, (one that appealed to my senses).

It is mainly a Catholic Country that was colonized by the Spanish but most of the inhabitant's speak some English. We did contact the only Mosques in Costa Rica, that held Jumah on Friday and held a class on Saturday. Their national currency is the Colones (500 to 1 American dollar) but don't get to excited, I found the cost of food a little high, even though our nightly rate at the Inn was only $89/night a real bargin when coupled with daily breakfast and taxi reimbursement from the airport.

We definitely plan to return when airline tickets are low (off season in April or May), next time we will go to the black side, lol, Puerto Limon on the Caribbean Sea. An overall winner in vacation spots!
